I am a multidisciplinary artist and author
working in almost any medium that
arouses my curiosity. I have three published
books on art and my work has
won numerous best of show awards
including the Veterans
Administration’s National Gold Medal
for art and the Sargent Art Supply
Company’s National First Place Award
for art. While my educational
degrees are in Publishing and
English, I studied art at an early age as
apprentice to master oil painters,
sculptors and stone and gem carvers. My
diverse skill set and love of art in its
many forms eventually guided me to the
creation of my signature paintings on
layered monofilament line and acrylic panel.
My work combines a love of realism with
unique materials and techniques that engage
both the eye and the mind in one-of-a-kind
works of art.
A favorite painting technique often seen in my work is the combination of black pigment and empty space. Shading, hue, tone; they are all created through the adjustment of space. Space becomes a color, a shade, a hue, a tint, and an invisible brush. While black and space can forge stunning images, the technique is also unforgiving. There is no way to hide or cover mistakes. I love the challenge in the precision required and the exciting images this technique allows me to create. |
